Cuban Hamburgers
If you haven’t already gathered from reading this little bog of mine, my cooking style is influenced by my Italian heritage. But, I love all food, and I try to cook lots of different things. But yes, Italian food is my wheelhouse. What you may not know, is my husband is Cuban. We like Cuban food! Here is one of his Abuela’s recipes.
These are Cuban hamburgers called Fritas. I always forget about this one. If you are looking for something other than the traditional hamburger, this is it! It is full of flavor, and really unexpected. Its so so good! This burger uses chorizo. Chorizo is a Spanish sausage made with pork and smoked paprika. It is made either soft or dry. We want the dry sausage for this recipe. When it cooks up it will release all its oils and add a wonderful pork flavor to our burgers. You can buy it mild or spicy, but I use the mild version. You can usually find this in the grocery store with the pepperoni and beef jerky. Just ask if you can’t find it. We grilled these. If you don’t have access to a grill, you can fry these in a pan. This burger is topped with potatoes sticks! I bet you haven’t seen those in awhile! Based on that alone, this should be a good one for the kids, but the grown ups will love this too!
Feel free to double or triple the recipe at your next cookout. Your guests will be pleasantly surprised!
